Contains a memoir detailing Carlson's service on the front lines in Italy. Summarizes his three stints serving on the line, scouting German positions, and securing strategic positions for the Allied advance. Describes his many close calls with death and his belief that he had divine protection throughout the war. Provides many details concerning his unit's capture of Mt. Arnigo in northern Italy. Also includes an magazine article describing his efforts to maintain his spiritual strength while in battle. Photographs show Carlson in military dress and in his later years with his entire family. Also includes the citation which accompanied his Bronze Star medal.
